How HCG Diet Works
Patients who decrease their calorie intake typically complain about symptoms of sluggishness, irritability, tired, fatigued, and feel hungry all the time. These patients typically give up on their diet, find it to stressful to continue, and simply cannot maintain weight loss with a continued low calorie diet. Your body is built to go into conservation mode when you reduce your calories to preserve your energy (in fat) that is stored. Most patients complain of losing little to no weight and cannot maintain this type of dieting for an extended amount of time.
The HCG diet works by changing your metabolism even with a low calorie diet. HCG works by pulling out the calories and nutrients that are stored in your fat and burns them for your body needs, thus removing the “conservation mode” your body typically goes into. Most of our patients express their excitement as they start the program, they quickly notice they are not experiencing the typical tiredness and fatigue associated with calorie reduction. The feeling of being hungry all the time is usually minimal or nonexistent and in our patients that have had small hunger pains, these symptoms are very minimal and easily tolerable as they get used to the diet.
Once the HCG hormone is active in your body it releases the calories stored in fat to provide you with the calories your body needs to burn through in a day. The calories you eat combined with the ones released by the hormone will help you safely lose weight while maintaining a normal energy level.
As our patients reach their goal weight they will be taken off of the diet because the HCG hormone will not be effective. As all of the fat cells are depleted they will no longer contain the excess calories needed to maintain a healthy caloric intake.

The HCG diet consists of a program that Dr. Erhard puts together during your first visit. Each diet is specific to the patients needs, age, and goals. You first appointment will consist of a medical exam to determine if you are a good candidate for the HCG weight loss program. You will discuss your past dieting attempts, your goals for the HCG diet, and your medical history.
Dr. Erhard will set up your goals, calorie intake, and go over the daily schedule of HCG that needs to be administered. She will answer any questions you have, so please make sure to bring your questions to your appointment. HCG can only be prescribed by a physician. While on the program you will meet with Dr. Erhard regularly so she can monitor your progression, ensure your safety while taking the drug, and make adjustments as necessary.
We use HCG subcutaneous injections that you will self-administer for 40 days. We will teach you how to safely inject the HCG subcutaneous drops, you will continue to self-administer the injections throughout the duration of your HCG diet. The HCG hormone typically takes 3 days to begin to take effect and “kick in”. After 40 days you will stop taking the drug because your body can develop an immunity to the drug. At the end of 40 days if you have not reached to your goal weight Dr. Erhard will have you take a 6 week break, this break allows your body to fully resensitize your body from taking the drug. At the end of the 6 weeks you will begin the next 40 day cycle. We will continue this schedule until you have been through 4 cycles, it is not recommended to complete more than four 40 day cycles of HCG for our patients safety and health.
