Dermal fillers are injectable treatments designed to add volume and/or fill in lines and wrinkles. The vast majority of dermal fillers are made to be used on different parts of the face. Most of them are used to treat problems on the lower half of the face, like smile lines or hollowed cheeks. Many facial fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body. Hyaluronic acid fillers have the advantage of not causing allergic reactions. The body gradually absorbs them, so their effects are temporary. However, the treatments can be repeated as needed at our office for ongoing results.
What is Juvederm®?
Juvederm® is a hyaluronic acid filler made by Allergan, which is the same company that makes BOTOX®, another popular injectable treatment that works in a different way than fillers. The earliest formulas of Juvederm® were first approved in 2006. There are different types of Juvederm® fillers, and they each serve their own unique purpose. Juvederm Voluma®, for example, is used to fill in cheeks that have become hollow with age.
What is Restylane®?
Restylane® is another dermal filler made from hyaluronic acid. It was first approved in 2003. Like Juvederm®, there are different types of Restylane® injectables. For example, Restylane Silk® is used to add volume to thin lips and to fill in certain lines and wrinkles around the mouth area.
Benefits of Dermal Fillers
One of the greatest benefits of facial fillers is the fact that they are entirely non-surgical in nature. There is no cutting or tissue removal involved. This means there is no downtime involved either. After the treatment, most people can go back to work or return to virtually all of their everyday activities. As such, these treatments are extremely convenient for people with busy lifestyles, as they can be easily worked around your schedule.
